TMJD-Focused Massage in Fairlawn, Ohio

Jaw-related discomfort doesn't always stop at the jaw.
The muscles responsible for jaw movement work alongside surrounding tissues of the face, head, neck, and cervical region. When you're already receiving care for temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD), specialized massage therapy can provide focused soft-tissue care for the muscular tension and restrictions associated with these areas.
TMJD-Focused Massage at Truly Heal Wellness is a specialized service for clients who have been referred for massage therapy as part of their care for diagnosed TMJD.
Rather than providing a generic massage, each session focuses specifically on the muscular and soft-tissue areas relevant to your referral, symptoms, and individual presentation.
TMJD-Focused Massage is a targeted massage therapy session centered around the muscles and related soft tissues of the jaw, head, neck, and cervical region.
TMJD can be complex, and massage therapy is not intended to diagnose the cause of your symptoms or replace appropriate dental, medical, or chiropractic care.
My role is different.
I work within the scope of massage therapy to address the muscular and soft-tissue components relevant to your TMJD referral.
This focused approach allows us to work with more than the area immediately surrounding the jaw when related muscular tension extends into the neck, base of the skull, or upper shoulder region.
The body doesn't function as a collection of completely separate parts.
The muscles surrounding the jaw exist alongside a larger network of tissues involved in jaw movement, head and neck positioning, and everyday movement.
That is why my approach isn't simply about spending 30 minutes working directly over the jaw.
Depending on your individual presentation, appropriate soft-tissue work may also focus on related areas of the:
Jaw and face
Head and temporal region
Neck and cervical musculature
Base of the skull
Upper shoulders
Other related soft tissues appropriate to your referral
Your treatment is individualized rather than based on a predetermined TMJD routine.
TMJD-Focused Massage session may incorporate:
Targeted external massage of appropriate jaw and facial musculature
Cervical and neck-focused massage
Trigger point techniques when appropriate
Myofascial techniques
Focused soft-tissue work around related head and neck musculature
Gentle observation of comfortable jaw or cervical movement when appropriate
Soft-tissue work involving related upper shoulder musculature
Not every person presents the same way, so not every TMJD session should look exactly the same.
Your referral, health history, current concerns, and how the appropriate soft tissues are presenting help guide the session.
TMJD-Focused Massage is intended for individuals who have been appropriately evaluated and referred for massage therapy as part of their TMJD care.
This service involves muscular or soft-tissue concerns such as:
Jaw muscle tension
Tight or overworked muscles surrounding the jaw
Associated facial muscular tension
Neck and cervical muscular tension
Tension involving the base of the skull or upper shoulders
Other appropriate soft-tissue concerns associated with your TMJD referral
Because TMJD may involve factors that extend beyond massage therapy, collaboration with your physician, chiropractor, dentist, or other appropriate healthcare professional may remain an important part of your overall care.
Both services involve individualized hands-on soft-tissue work, but they serve different purposes.
Therapeutic Massage is a general therapeutic service for muscular tension, soreness, repetitive stress, recovery, overworked areas, and regular maintenance.
TMJD-Focused Massage is a specialized service specifically intended for clients who have been referred for massage therapy as part of their care for TMJD.
The treatment emphasis is concentrated around appropriate jaw, facial, head, neck, and cervical soft tissues rather than providing a traditional general massage.
